Recommend?

I would recommend this to many of my friends. Some of my guy friends who think that no girl gets them, I believe this book would show them that they are not insane and most of what goes through this minds also go through three quarters of every guys mind. Definitely to my girl friends to empower them with a wide-open look into the minds of boys. It changed my whole perspective on every single guy.

Summary.

The books "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man" is a book that gets every woman who truly wants a solid relationship but just can't figure out how to get one, how to get one. Those who are already in a relationship and trying to figure out how to make it better, to forget evrything women have every been taught about men- erase the myths, the heresy, everything their mothers told them, everything their girlfriend otld them, all the advice they've read in magainzense and seen on televisions and find out who men really are.

What men count on is that you'll continue to get their advice from other women who do not know their tactics or their mind-set. Harvey targets people who are dating, and want to find out how to take it to another level.People who are married, and want to regain control and strengthen their bond. People who are in a committed relationship and want to get a ring on their finger. Or people who are tired of being played with.

This book teaches principles, rules, and tips in the no-nonsense guide and uses them to anticipate a man's game plan, and to counter with an offense and defense. Harvey mostly targets the relationships where the woman thinks she is going to "change her man". No matter what other women are shouting from the covers of magazines, on the television talk shows, during their girlfriend getaway bonding trips, and on blogs from here to Timbuktu there are basic things in men that are never going to change.

Best Chapter.

I think that Chapter two "Our love just isn't like your love" is the best chapter in the book. It explains how women express their love, how she will talk to him until there aren't any more words left to say, encourages him when he's at rock bottom and think there just isn't any way out, holds him in her arms when he's sick and laughs with him when he's up. Harvey says that's exactly how women expect all of the men to love them in return, but he explains the different kind of love that comes from men. He shows that their love is still loyal, caring and genuine, but different.

Harveys Tone.

On page 108 in Steve Harveys book "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man." Harvey talks about why men cheat. He explains in detail what it feels like to cheat on someone, the guilt and the remorse felt. Also, he explains the feeling of thinking he lost someone for good and how bad it hurt. His tone seems cocky, in the sense that he talks as if he has experienced these situations personally before. He even says in the paragraph, "We understand penalties and we knows its going to be straight hell. Trust me, I know."

Events.

1. A woman tells her husband that "the color of the kitchen cabinets are all wrong, they don't go with the stove and I can't get my mind right in here when I'm trying to cook." He asks her "What color you want this kitchen to be, baby? She says "pink". The next Saturday, the whole kitchen is painted pink cabinets and all.

Significance- A man who really loves you can't wait to do these kind of things, he can envision you with a smile on your face. Men want to see their ladies happy, but it's also about the respect returned.

2. A women seen a man for six months, went out and visited each others homes. Then all of a sudden he stopped calling and when she calls him, he seemed excited they got very short with her. He doesn't act like he wants to be bothered, She didn't know what happened, still liked him, but it bothered her to know that something could be on his mind that he wasn't sharing with her, or found another woman and wanted to keep her in the back pocket.

Significance- Instead of investing all this time and energy into a man who can't and won't live up to her expectations, let the guy walk.

3. A man lets his mother control him, calls him to do everything. She calls the house late at night to scream at him for something they did not agree on. Calls him for money, to paint her house, to pick her up, to cook, and even wash her clothes. The woman in his life felt as if his mother was taking away from the family.

Significance- The woman must establish rules and say them loud and early in the relationship, and make sure the man sticks to them.

4. Valentines Day Harveys girlfriend Marjorie, before she became wife came to visit him at the office, one of his old friends from his single days called and said Hi. He told her that they'd chat another time and he'd see her if he came down some day. When he got up to go to the bathroom that night, she was standing in the hallway in her fur coat and suitcase in her hand. She was going to leave because of the phone call.

Significance- Harvey realized she was the one for him.

5. A woman decided when her boyfriend showed up late, instead of complaining about how she can't stand when people show up late she decided to take another approach. She stated "Everybody is so busy these days- time sure is precious, isn't it?"

Significance- She showed her requirements in a man in a maturely handled way.

Pineapple Juice. This man loved pineapple juice, he dropped it into the buggy when she was looking at something else just coincidentally. She turned around and asked what he put into the buggy, he said "Pineapple Juice" she said "You, don't have any money," took the juice out and dropped it to the floor.

Significance- Harvey figured out "who he was" and "what he did."

10. Every Sunday Harvey and his family would go to church. His dad took him to get a hair cut, he would get all lotioned up and put on his shoes and suit and his mother would always compliment him. Harvey held his head high because she was encouraging him to be presentable. His fathers chest was as far out as his because every Sunday, she reminded him that he made it all possible, she kissed and thanked him every Sunday of the week.

Significance- A man need strength to keep doing right by her and the family.

Places.

A bus ride downtown- Harvey was eight years old, his mother was his idol. He had unconditional love for her, would not admit his mother was capable of making mistakes, or let someone say or do anything to his mother. Harvey s father came into the room and said, very simply,, "You and your mother are going downtown- watch out for your mother." Which was his number one rule in his fathers house. Do not come back without my mother and my sisters. I might as well kill myself or get on a bus and go somewhere else, but don't come back without my mother and the girls.

Diving Trip- Joint fishing and diving trip in Maui with coworkers. Harveys wife is a certified scuba diver. He is not. When they got out on the choppy waters of the Pacific Ocean, he couldn't help but feel like something was going to happen to his wife. She put on all her equipment and entered the water. Harvey got antsy and immediately started lighting up cigars and walking around the boat, telling everyone on board from his manager to the captain that if his wife wasn't back up above water in thirty0five minutes than everybody's putting on suits and going to get her or he's killing everyone on the boat. Showing his protection for his wife.

Main Characters.

The most important people in this book are the unnamed women, Steve Harvey, and his wife Marjorie. The unnamed women have outer traits such as smart, independent, good looking, healthy, and kind. Their inner traits however, are that they know it all, they expect the impossible, they know nothing about what men are really like, and half the knowledge that goes on in their head about men is ninety nine point nine percent false. Steve Harvey is an African American, tall, healthy looking, hilarious, well put together male. His inner traits are experienced, he sees what other men and women think and expect and has put together those ideas and thoughts and came to a idea himself about what men really think about love, relationships, intimacy, and commitments. His wife Marjorie is average weight, shorter than Harvey, African American, independent female. Her inner traits are quite similar to those described of the females. Shes described as expecting the impossible, but being very intelligent and well on her own.

The titles relation.

"Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man," relates to this book in a million ways. The book shows how women handle every situation. How they think, what they like, what they expect, how they think they know what men think. But the book is about what men really think about love, relationships, intimacy, and commitment. It gives all women the tricks of the trade. Getting into a mans thoughts ahead of time, knowing what goes on generally in most of their minds. Harvey explains what women think, why their wrong, and what really is the truth. Which is how the title relates to the book, after reading women can act like ladies, but think like men.
